The Bathing Suits You Won’t Take Off
5.12.2021
Natalie Engel, here again! Last time we chatted, I described to you the intricate art of layering in Los Angeles. Today, things are heating up! Summer is calling which means so is your bathing suit. Yup, it’s time to shed those cold weather layers (sweatsuits included) and pull your bathing suit out of retirement. After the year that we’ve had, a season filled with excitement and care-free energy is exactly what we need. I plan to live in my bathing suit at the beach or poolside until I can’t stand being in the sun any longer. I’m putting my best foot (and sandal) forward and soaking up every last drop of fun this summer.
Living in bathing suits for the next four months means they must meet a very strict criteria: a) stylish, b) comfy, and of course, c) flattering. Plus, I’ll need a few different options to carry me through September (hello, summer in LA!) Cue COAST by COAST, the bathing suit mecca and my latest style obsession. The multi-brand swim and lifestyle boutique born in Brooklyn is local to Los Angeles at ROW DTLA and I couldn’t be happier.
COAST by COAST is like your cooler, older sister that knows all the trends before anyone else at school does. Founder Kristen Cleary is constantly curating a fresh selection of pieces that you can’t find anywhere else in the flesh. Not only do they carry the indie brands you’ve probably seen on Instagram, they have the coolest selection of sunnies and warm weather accessories to boot.

Electric Color Palette
Loud and vibrant colors scream 80s and I am here for it. This summer, it’s out with minimalist neutrals and in with a palette that makes you want to party.
Retro Silhouettes
Shorter shorts for men, higher waists for women. Sound familiar? The 80s are back (and “with a vengeance” as my mother would say). I’m a firm believer that these silhouettes are incredibly flattering—I’ll never go back to the low-rise life.
Prints and Textures
If you’re rocking a bright palette, I hope you’re indulging in fun patterns too. And if you’re opting for solid colors, I’d consider a bathing suit in a texture that speaks for itself (like the one seen on Sofia in blue).
No matter where you end up this summer, make sure you are rocking a bathing suit that makes you feel as good as you look. Hello Summer 2021!
