Your Sneak Peak at Smorgasburg’s Return

Warning: Mouths May Water Upon Reading

07.21.2021

Smorgasburg is back at ROW with a slew of new faces! This can only mean one thing: delicious delights to dine on all summer long. These palatable new vendors are bringing global cuisine to DTLA, with many treating each dish like a love letter to their roots: delicately,  intentionally and flavorfully. Locally sourced ingredients,  recipes passed down from almost four generations and school buses will be making their way to ROW with this beloved food festival’s return.  Our mouths are already watering at the thought. Dive into three of the more unique vendors below and make sure you come to DINE at your favorite downtown district.

ManEatingPlant: This vegan, asian, comfort food pop up coined themselves the #MagicFoodBus and for good reason: they serve their food out of a converted school bus! Born in the summer of 2018, co-creators and chefs Candice Tzeng and Phil Kwan use ManEatingPlant to explore their Chinese, Taiwanese and Japanese roots through elevated cuisine, while also spreading compassion and making the world a better, more sustainable place.

Goat Mafia: This Compton based taco pop up considers themselves the Traditional Birria Slangers. Rightfully so considering their Jalisco style goat birria recipe has been passed down through four generations. This meaty red stew laced with chiles received national recognition in Bon Appetit, and is made from goat, dried chiles, chocolate, and California oranges sourced from the chef’s uncle’s backyard. It doesn’t get more local than that.

Bridgetwon Roti: Chef Rashida Holmes uses organic, locally sourced produce to make recipes from her Barbados roots. Get your hands on her oxtail patties, normally the first thing to sell out of this Caribbean-inspired pop up.  Other notable items to try: the crispy dark-brown fried cod fritters or the namesake chicken curry roti. Last but not least, a housemade fiery pepper sauce brings in the right level of heat and acid for a great punch of flavor to any dish.

Explore, dine and play at Smorgasburg LA every Sunday from 10am - 4pm at ROW DTLA. 777 S. ALAMEDA ST, LOS ANGELES, CA 90021
