This week why not disconnect, kick back and dive into literature with books we love from our ROW DTLA Marketing and PR team, along with favs from our Collective retailers. Read up on everything from fiction, cookbooks and photography, to design and business philosophy, and broaden those horizons. Better yet, order any of the curated selections below online from our Collective, and you’ll be doing your part to support small business too.

Tag us @rowdtla #rowdtla with your favs from our list and send us some book recommendations back! After all, we love to share.  Right now, ROW DTLA is reading...

Karen Yi, Brand Marketing & Events Director. Book picks: The Great CEO Within by Matt Mochary and The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo. I’ve always had a growth mindset. I believe that intelligence, creativity, love and friendships can be cultivated through deliberate practice and effort. With growing responsibilities in my current role, Mochary’s book has helped me hone in on the skills needed to be an effective leader and as a professional headed towards the next step in my career. Simultaneously, I’m reading The Alchemist, which was a book recommended by my boyfriend, Brian. In times like these it’s a good reminder that “It’s the simple things in life that are most extraordinary.” - Paulo Coehlo

Stefanie Goslant, Senior Events Operations Associate. Book picks: Elin Hilderbrand’s Winter Street and The Paradise series. I pick books by Elin because they are lighthearted. Her series books are the best, because you know there’s going to be even more amazing twists and turns in the next one!

Saige Shive, Administrative Assistant. Book picks: Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis, The Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins, and The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker. I’m reading these books because I’m (obviously) on a little self-improvement journey. These books are helping me grow my confidence within my individual/professional goals, provide tools by which to better manage my finances (so they don’t wind up managing me), and prepare me to always trust my instincts!

Heather Irvine, Strategy and Content Consultant. Book picks: What it Takes: Lessons in the Pursuit of Excellence by Stephen Schwarzman, Rubies in the Orchard by Lynda Resnick, and The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. The books I’ve chosen are to help me along my professional journey; I love learning from the best! As Stephen Schwarzman puts it, "It takes just as much effort to do something big, as it does to do something small." I carry that thought throughout everything I do!

Trisha Cole, Managing Director, Wagstaff Media & Marketing. Book pick: Katharine Graham’s Personal History. This is after reading Dick Van Dyke’s My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business and Joyce Maynard’s The Best of Us. I’m clearly on a memoir kick. It’s strangely comforting being immersed in other people’s lives, and reading about their highs and lows. It’s been a nice way to take a little break from my own life each day.

Emelyn Solis, Account Executive, Wagstaff Media & Marketing. Book pick: You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero. This year I wanted to try new things that would lead to self-improvement. So I purchased this book recommended by a friend, and so far I’ve picked up a few tips on how to change certain behaviors and thought processes that were holding me back. I would definitely recommend it to those looking to make a change in their lives.

Erin Yamauchi, Account Supervisor, Wagstaff Media & Marketing. Book picks: City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert. I read 2-3 books in tandem—chalk it up to a shorter attention span—and I wanted a quick and easy fictional read celebrating the nuanced nature of growing up and finding yourself as a woman. It’s gritty, colorful, and filled with dynamic characters you want to love and hate all in the same breath. I’m pairing this fun read with Everybody Lies by Seth Stephens-Davidowitz for contrast—a clever read on how big data and today’s evolving tech environment impacts the human and social psyche.

Kelly Meyer, ROW DTLA Social. Book pick: The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. I’ve always wanted to read one of his books and heard that this one is great for someone in marketing, so with the extra time and the dreary weather, I'm finally sitting down to crack this one open!

Cole Moser, ROW DTLA Social. Book pick: Dream Baby Dream by Jimmy Marble. I've been a huge fan of Jimmy for as long as I can remember. This book is stacked with beautiful images from his body of work, and little hand written notes and insights from Jimmy himself. He's one of those people who continually contributes positivity to the world, and now more than ever it's important to pick up a book that brings a smile to your face.
