The GETAWAY Playlist

Meet Modi.  Between being Capitol Records’ newest Senior Director of Marketing, Founder of the marketing agency Heating Up, and co-creator of the D.C. music festival Trillectro, his life’s work exists at the intersection of music, culture and creativity.

We invited Modi and his pup Metro to come hang out with us at ROW, and asked him to create a playlist for our next road trip.

Modi: We've been cooped up in quarantine for damn near half a year. This sudden pause has a lot of people feeling anxious. Luckily for us [in LA], a change of scenery isn't too hard to find. A handful of spots are a short drive away: Palm Springs and Santa Barbara, San Diego and Joshua Tree, I could go on.

For my GETAWAY playlist, each one of these songs makes me feel good. I can put this on shuffle and whatever plays will be perfect for the moment. I have been making mixes regularly since middle school. My musical tastes are all over the place, and this playlist is no different. Music is wonderfully subjective, and you can't look at me and think you know what I listen to. I like what I like, and this is a collection of songs that do it for me at the moment.

And if you don't feel like making that road trip, or need some stimulation in these uniquely bizarre times, I feel like now is the time to appreciate your surroundings and stumble upon all the cool sh*t you didn't get a chance to appreciate when life was hectic. You don't even have to go anywhere - you could get lost in a new hobby. I started a new job during quarantine and won't see my new office until 2021, so I built a replica of it outta LEGOS.

Recently my GETAWAY has been biking. I went to DTLA Bikes up on Broadway back in May and copped a bike. Since then, I've done rides all over the place, from downtown to Burbank, from Hollywood to Santa Monica, really wherever my gang is down to ride. The best ride is probably by Manhattan Beach, along that boardwalk. It reminds me that I live in LA for real, like I made it. But my favorite ride is along the LA river, because there's this fire cafe on the bike path called Spoked with this crazy chicken bacon sandwich and waffle fries. Damn.

Whatever GETAWAY you decide on, this playlist is a worthy companion. My musical tastes are all over the place, and this playlist is no different. Lemme know if you dig it.
