Spring Fashion Report

Featuring Banks Journal

3.17.2021

It’s undeniable that our approach to fashion over the past 12 months was quite out of the norm, but we’re optimistic that 2021 promises the return to some sense of normalcy in both our lives and our wardrobes. There’s no better time to invest in our style, or at the very least open more than just our loungewear drawers each day, than at the start of a new season.

It’s already beginning to feel like spring in L.A., so we're taking cues from the S/S ‘21 runways for our spring shopping lists. The shows, and fashion week as a whole, may have looked very different this year, but the trends for both men and women did not disappoint. And luckily, many of them are quite practical for our current lifestyle.

Unique Tops

For those of us that work from home and have gotten into the habit of only prioritizing our style from the waist up, there are plenty of top trends to keep things interesting. As the weather warms up even more, expect to see lots of one-piece swimsuits worn under denim, shorts, and skirts as bodysuits. A little unconventional? Maybe. Genius? Yes.

Pops of Color

Each season, there are typically a few colors that stand out on the runways against the rest.  While we’re used to seeing plenty of pastels and nautical blues for warm months, it was neon that took the number one spot for color trends. Tangerine, bubblegum pink, and pops of yellow and green may just be the perfect thing to bring a little joy to our days this spring.

Make It Short

It’s mini skirts reminiscent of styles worn in the ‘90s for women and Bermuda shorts for the guys. While these are definitely not new, the warmer it gets, the more enticing this trend sounds.

To learn more about how L.A. brands are tackling spring style, we tapped the designer at Banks Journal, to get the scoop. P.S. — the brand just released their new spring collection, so whenever you’re ready to get in vacation (or staycation!) mode they’ll have you covered.

We wanted to know how.

How would you describe your spring collection?

“It’s made up of easy pieces, subtle details, and timeless styles with an emphasis on texture, color, and natural beauty. We drew inspiration from our travels, specifically New York, Japan, the beaches of Hawaii, and Byron Bay.” {Vacations… Remember those?}

How do you think people are dressing differently now than before COVID-19?

A lot of people are dressing in more comfortable activewear for the times. We’ve always had really easy-to-wear elastic shorts and soft organic cotton tee shirts in our collections.”

Key must-have styles from this collection?
Does the collection tap into any big spring trends?

The biggest trend that we are tapping into is the sustainable aspect of our collection having organic cotton fabrics and recycled board shorts in the range. I also think the vibrant colours and vintage vibe will be pretty popular.
