SPRING/BREAK ART FAIR’S LOS ANGELES EXCESS

LA WEEKLY

2.15.2020

is back in Los Angeles for its second year, and is fully living up to both its theme of IN EXCESS and its reputation as the most on-point and refreshing fair of the whole Art Week (Frieze Week) situation, out-cooling the rest by a mile. Foregoing last year’s semi-outdoor produce bays for a vast post-industrial floor-through at ROW DTLA, the New York-based outfit invites about 65 independent curators, galleries, and artist-run collectives to present solo or group installations that push boundaries of conventionality in materials, experience, and concept installation. Literally every booth has something special to offer, but do not miss the post-technology humanism and art/science melt at the SUPERCOLLIDER/Femmebit booth; the happy pill sunshine at Durden and Ray, the step-up jungle-cinema video sculptures at Fall on Your Sword, space-trash fashion sculpture by Kellesimone Waits, a heavenly spa for your cleaned-up ultra-authentic self by Jonathan Paul, thoughtful group curations organized by Khang B. Nguyen and Sadaf Padder, the Custom art truck by Gas, and the sequined creep-fest that is Real Amazing by Benjamin Cabral.
