YOUR GUIDE TO EARTH DAY
4.12.2024
Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping and the sun is shining; aka the onset of spring is upon us. Which also means the Earth Day is coming up, and this year’s official theme is Planet vs Plastics. The latest goal for the organization is to reduce plastic production by 60% by 2024. For consumers, this (surprisingly) includes veering away from recycling, and heading towards reducing / reusing instead. Here’s your guide on how to do it at ROW.
Whether you’re perusing the fruit and vegetable stands at our weekly farmer’s market or doing a little retail therapy, bringing your own bag will reduce single use papers and plastic usage.
Not all vintage shopping has to be for one-of-a-kind pieces that cost an arm and a leg to procure. In fact, thanks to retailers like Harvester International, Tried & True Co, Apt. 4B and Arcade, the options are endless when it comes to sustainably building your wardrobe with essentials you’ll wear again and again.
This one is obvious, we know. And our free parking may make this even harder, but, next time you have an inkling to head over to ROW, try biking or using public transportation instead. We have Metro Bike parking onsite, while the nearest subway station drop off is a 4 min walk away.
When you’re shopping from smaller, local brands, you’re not only reinvesting your money into your community, but you’re reducing your carbon footprint immensely. Some garments may travel around the world several times during the manufacturing process, which results in increased emissions through air travel, while other garments are often produced in developing countries where there is less regulation around pollution. Shopping from local brands avoids all of this.
We’ll be celebrating Earth Day and more springtime activities at ROW with sustainable initiatives, pop ups and events scattered happening all month long. Subscribe to our emails below to stay informed!
