With The Lead Esthetician From The Things We Do
1.25.2023
We sat with Aziel Rogers, the lead esthetician at The Things We Do, to take us through a day in the life of a wellness guru. She specializes in natural beauty guidance and intentional wellness (like being present). She let us in on a day in her life – she’s a new mom, too – and shared tips to take into your own routine.
My day usually starts with getting out of bed before my baby. I’ll heat up the tea kettle so I can pour myself some hot lemon water and make some oatmeal. While I’m eating I’ll take a look at my work schedule and appointments for the day. I like to prepare (mentally and energetically) for any new clients I might have and for the return clients if we have specific skincare plans together. I’ll then get started with my skincare routine, makeup, hair, and putting my scrubs on. I’ll fill my water bottle and make my matcha to-go before feeding my baby and then heading off to work.
After having a baby it’s been hard to make time for myself so I try and cherish the little moments like creating a ritual that involves my skincare regimen in the morning and at night. Or making myself a matcha or smoothie to enjoy during my commute to work. I also like to stretch before bed to decompress. I don’t journal regularly, but for the new year one of my goals is to do so in order to free my mind from the anxiousness of overthinking.
I don’t think I have one singular piece of advice to help you prioritize wellness, but recommend evaluating whether or not you’re happy with current lifestyle choices you’re making and then asking yourself: “In what way does this bring meaning to my life?” That question has helped me through so much in life and brought much needed peace.
I want to make sure my body is functioning optimally. Whether that’s going for walks with my baby, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or even taking care of my largest organ - my skin! The reason I journal is to stay emotionally and mentally grounded. You can let go of so much if you’re willing to see your thoughts in front of you. It can also be a form of manifestation and goal planning.
