Hataman Touen returns to Los Angeles for a second year at a defining moment in its history. In 2026, the celebrated Japanese kiln marks a century of craftsmanship, bringing its legacy from the porcelain village of Okawachiyama to Los Angeles through a hands-on experience.
During this 60-minute session led in person by fifth-generation master Shuuji Hataishi, each participant will color a Bird of Paradise flower design on a Hataman Touen porcelain tumbler using traditional overglaze painting techniques. Created exclusively for this workshop, the Bird of Paradise design pays tribute to the official flower of Los Angeles. The tumbler will be the same porcelain tumbler featured in Hataman Touen’s Texture and Restaurant Maison collections (retail value $130).
No ceramics or painting experience is required, and beginners are welcome. All tools, colors, and workshop supplies are provided and sourced from Japan. Workshop capacity is limited. Advance registration is recommended.
