As further proof that the written word is not dead, Downtown is getting a stationery and design store. Hightide Japan (not to be confused with the bar High Tide set for the Seafood District) has signed on for a space at the Industrial District’s Row DTLA complex. The brand’s first store outside of Japan will carry everything from stationery, notebooks and envelopes to rulers and hourglasses. Hightide Japan’s products have a somewhat retro feel that would fit in a Wes Anderson film. The shop will also stock the company’s Penco collection of sleek, colorful ballpoint pens. No opening date has been announced.
