Diana Ra, designer and founder of Los Angeles label Dra, will open her first store at the end of this month.

The contemporary line — a hit among bloggers and retailers such as RevolveAnthropologiePlanet Blue and boutiques — will try its hand at a 700-square-foot store at the Row DTLA project in downtown.

It’s the company’s first foray into bricks-and-mortar, with Ra saying the timing was right to open a store and also ride on the general momentum and interest in downtown at the moment.
“There’s so many great, amazing things happening in L.A. right now and especially in downtown in the Arts District,” Ra said. “Since it’s our home, it just really made sense for us and we wanted to be a part of everything that’s happening. It gives us an opportunity to meet our customers, talk to them face to face and collaborate with other brands.”

The store will carry not only the Dra label, which Ra launched about four years ago, but products from other Los Angeles-based, women-owned businesses including Pistola Denim, Noma Project, Local + Lejos, Someware Goods and Skinesque.
“I feel like the modern woman doesn’t dress one brand head to toe — that’s for myself too. There are so many parts of the wardrobe that Dra doesn’t do like accessories and loungewear so it was really a passion project to curate the space with some of my absolute favorite brands and they’re all really special, artisanal brands,” Ra said.
If the other brands do well in the Arts District store, there would be consideration of adding them to Dra’s online store.
Dra, which is sold in more than 150 doors, focuses on pieces with neutral color palettes and delicate prints with production occurring in Los Angeles, China and India.
Up next are a few collaborations with bloggers, including a mommy-and-me line and another that would be an exclusive with one of the company’s retailers, to be revealed at a later date.
